Application for Research Expeditions

Anyone may apply to participate as a field worker in our research programs. See the Ecuadorian Rainforest and Mexico Sky Islands project pages for details on the programs, and then come back here to apply.

To complete the application, you will need:

  • If a current or previous college student, a grade-point average or equivalent grade statistic

  • A one page personal statement outlining what you expect to gain by this program, either professional or personal. Feel free to elaborate on your personal interests and background. Also in this statement, give a brief self-assessment of your own abilities as they might relate to rigorous field work, long hours, working in groups, and under primitive conditions.

  • Names and contact information for two personal references

  • Names, addresses and phone numbers of two emergency contacts

  • To have printed and signed the required legal waiver and attached a scanned copy to this application, or faxed or sent by mail. Your application will not be considered until we receive your signed legal waiver.

  • If available, a color copy of your passport, which may be uploaded as a scanned file in this application, or sent later by mail or email attachment.

Click the buy now button to submit $225, of which $25 is a non-refundable application fee, and $200 is a deposit which is refundable only if your application is not accepted. This payment must be made before your application will be considered.

Medical Conditions: Please list any physical or mental conditions which may potentially interfere with your abilities to work in a rigorous field setting. These may include, but are not limited to, chronic injuries, severe allergies, asthma, diabetes, physical handicaps, or learning disabilities. We have a rigorous anti-discrimination policy, and will make every effort for reasonable accommodations for those with any medical conditions or disabilities. Cancellation Policy

Once a $25 application fee is collected, it is not refundable for any reason. If your application is not accepted, your $200 deposit will be refunded to you immediately, but is otherwise not refundable. It will apply towards your balance which is due one month prior to travel. Once program fees have been accepted, they are immediately dispersed to cover trip expenses, and are subject to complete forfeiture, whether or not you have attended or completed the expedition. Should there be low enrollment or events beyond the our control, including weather conditions, political conditions, etc., we reserve the right to cancel an expedition at any time. In this case, your entire deposit and registration fees will be refunded, or may be applied to a future expedition, but no provision is provided to cover any other expenses you have incurred in preparation for the trip, including airfare, insurance, medical costs, and personal purchases, among others.
