Thanks to the hard work of the Oregon Coast Aquarium, two stranded sea turtles could be on their way back to recovery. Eventually if all goes well they could be transported to the San Diego SeaWorld Turtle Rehabilitation Center later this month.
The turtles are native to warm Pacific waters and rarely show up on the Pacific Northwest coast. Researcher suspects they got caught in offshore pockets of warm water, or gyres, that carried them north.
Both turtles were hypothermic when they were found and had not eaten for some time. Both species are on the federal endangered species list.
Both turtles are female and more than 5 to 10 years old. When they are fully recovered, they will be released into the wild.
